Presentation

The Department of Mathematics at the University of Trento has the mission of advancing research, teaching, and the promotion of mathematics.

Through its activities, it aims to:

- make a significant contribution to advanced mathematical research and its applications, fostering connections with the international scientific community and collaborations with national and local research institutions;

- train graduates and PhDs with solid expertise in mathematics, who can transmit, utilize, and enhance these skills. The Department actively supports its students from enrollment to graduation through initiatives like tutoring, offering special excellence programs, and promoting the internationalization of study paths;

- promote, disseminate, and support the role of mathematics in society at large, particularly in the local community, by establishing specific interdisciplinary laboratories.

The Department is committed to the well-being of its student community and staff by informing them about the services offered by the university, as well as providing adequate facilities for study and research. It advocates for equal opportunities, aiming to ensure that each individual has equal conditions for participating in academic life and for their cultural and professional development, regardless of gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or disability.

To maximize its potential and enhance the social and economic impact of its expertise, the Department actively participates in numerous interdisciplinary projects, including interdepartmental degree programs, joint laboratories with local applied research institutions, and collaborations with local schools. For monitoring and planning its educational offerings, it relies on the support of advisory committees that include local economic stakeholders.

The Department supports and encourages its members to participate in competitive research project calls and promotes collaborative initiatives aimed at scientific excellence. It hosts a local unit of INdAM and supports CIRM (International Centre for Mathematical Research), a joint initiative of INdAM, the Bruno Kessler Foundation (FBK), and the University of Trento.

The Department of Mathematics at the University of Trento is committed to ensuring the quality of its activities by analyzing the past, monitoring the present, and planning for the future to implement continuous improvement policies, sharing decisions and results with students and all staff members.
